Was pleasantly surprised to get 5/6 but not sure if it is enough against an arty and language-focussed opponent (his flag has a latin motto and everything).
: ) Diesel. Oil industry stuff. D22
: ( Abel. Had no idea and couldn’t think of any guess except maybe ‘Honor’ which is typically a woman’s name. D11
: ) Mesopotamia. Ancient History Gimme. D10
: ) Wickets. Risked a D33 here but should be OK. This cricket question coincides with the weekend in which New Zealand is the top (test-playing) cricket team in the world for the first time. D33
: ) Venice. A guess based entirely on the storyline sounding a bit like Talented Mr Ripley and Call Me By Your Name, both of which were set in Italy, so picked a suitably dramatic and Germany-proximate location. D21
: ) Opera. I read an article on Andrew Lloyd Webber in the FT just last weekend, in which it mentioned the Phantom of the Opera dated to 1986. That made this easy. D02
