Kim Day 3
Vs FriedlandW LL
Vs MirkinDave LLL
1 :( Spork. I really wanted the answer to be spork. Bad D. D11
2 :( You. I put Love and talked myself out of it by coming up with all of the songs I know by REO Speedwagon D23
3 :( Ammonia. Just entered an previous LL answer I didn't get since you all have made me aware of potential second chances. D32
4 :( ISIS. Had to put something. D11

Brian I Day 3 vs FriedlandMJ
1) splendiferous. No chance. 2/0
2) love. I own the cassette and the CD of Air Supply's Greatest Hits. Had a little scare as my favorite is Sweet Dreams and thought that had to be one of their four biggest hits, but the answer was obvious with All Out of Love, Making Love Out of Nothing At All, The One That You Love, and Lost in Love. (I'll stop showing off now.) 2/1
3) formic acid. An educated guess based on the inclusion of ants, which are either named after formic acid or vice versa. Never knew it was associated with other insects, but makes sense. 1/2
4) ISIS. knew it was wrong, but forgot about them. 1/2
5) Good Burger. A random memory that stuck with me, was not at all confident when I submitted. 3/3
6) Latvia, Lithuania. The first two that I thought of. Interestingly, a podcast I just listened to asked a question about a European country and the answer was Armenia, and the contestants were very unhappy as Armenia is in Asia, but the host insisted that since Armenia is considered part of Europe politically, the question was phrased correctly. I wonder if Thorsten heard this and refined his question. 0/1

Ben Day 3
Steiny Day 3
Seif Day 3 vs. Brad (LLL)
3/6, though not the three I thought I had when I submitted.
1. Dipper :(, D13. No clue.
2. Love :), D22. Straight up guess, though it seemed logical. But even now knowing that this is the right answer, I can’t name any of the songs.
3. Carboxylic Acid :(, D31. Crap. I really thought this was correct. Now I see it’s the general term for this type of acid, not specifically the simplest. I actually doubt I could have come up with the right answer.
4. Northern Alliance :), D00. Gimme.
5. Dude Where’s My Car :(, D12. No clue.
6. Latvia, Lithuania :), D21. I’m shocked to learn this is the only pair.

Brian Day 2 vs Pelco
1) Exoplanet. Was between this and black holes. I knew a black hole was just seen visibly for the first time, but thought one had to have been detected further back than 1989 in order to inspire the classic 1979 movie The Black Hole as well as the 1977 Rush song "Cygnus X-1". 1/3
2) Studios. Was going with Apartment until I saw "60", which had to be Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. 0/0
3) krishna. never heard of this 2/2
4) Daisy. Excited to get this pseudo-guess. Though I've never read (or seen the movie of) it, I remembered a previous question asking for the names of two women involved in a car crash in The Great Gatsby. I remembered Daisy was one of them, and hoped that's who the question was referring to. 2/1
5) Fargo. Thought of other big names at the time, bringing me to Chase, which led to banks, which led to Wells Fargo. 1/1
6) Fredrock. A portmanteau of Fred Flinstone and Bedrock. I've heard of sheeple, but not meeple. Hoping Pelco is not in Ben's game playing sphere of influence. 3/2
Dave M day 2 v Andy Levinson LL and Steiny LLL
The rare double Carrben12 opponent matchup strikes today, and my 3/6 will make it interesting vs Steiny at least, given his answers below.
1 : ( I don’t know why I went with White Dwarf, exoplanet is obvious in retrospect. D22
2 : ( I went in the Seif direction with Police Cars. D21
3 : ) We definitely learnt about Satyagraha in high school, I assumed this would be more well known so gave it a middling D12
4 : ( Guessed Florence. D33
5 : ) Pleased I got this. Like Ben and Seif, Wells was my link here, then Fargo was suddenly the obvious city 900 miles west. D11
6 : ) I took a random guess that Carrben12 people would know this, in fact I suspect that the one time I met Steiny at Ben’s old place in Manhattan we may even have played Carcasonne… D00
So, a 5 (3) – 4 (3) victory over Steiny today, making 6-4-1 stats in our 26 common seasons so far.
Kim Day 2
Vs Jesse LLL
1 :( Comets. D11
2 :) Studios. I started at cars but updated quickly. D01
3 :( Namaste. No idea. D32
4 :) Daisy. D22
5 :) Fargo. I also approached by the miles. Rereading Wells made it seem pretty clear. D20
6 :( No chance. D13
Ben day 2
Seif Day 2
1. Planet :/, D22. This was a gimme for me, though it never occurred to me that Thorsten would demand the exo prefix. Based on passed scoring, I suspect I’ll get credit.
2. Race cars :(, D01. No shot here.
3. Bapu :(, D31. Rare that I gave absolutely no clue on a world history question, but that was the case here. I’m starting off 1/1 on pop music and 0/1 on world history. What a season so far.
4. Daisy :), D13. I got it from the second one, a book I’m very familiar with but which I won’t name because it would be a spoiler.
5. Fargo :), D10. One of my most satisfying gets in a while. I had no idea about the history of American Express, but given that the name Wells is associated with Fargo and that Fargo is a city, it seems like the best guess.
6. Woodmen :(, D22. No clue.

Gideon Day 1 LL82 vs Brian
5/6 today
1 :) 2/2

3 :) 1/1 - Whachootalkinbout!
4 :) 1/1
5 :( 3/3 Brazilian
6 :) 0/0
Steiny Day 1
Brian Day 1 vs Gideon (LLL)
1) Synchronized swimming. SNL immediately came to mind. This is a must-see if you haven't already. https://videopress.com/v/nwJ0fYJL 1/2.
2) Little Rock. 2/2
3) Richie. A miss in my wheelhouse. I couldn't come up with it, went with Richie Rich (good job, Dave M!), and made it worse by defending it like it was a 1960s comic book instead of a staple of 80s tv. Hoping I'll get assigned a zero, at least. 2/3
4) Silicon Valley. Gimme? 1/1
5) Italian. Suffering through watching these people on the MTV awards the other night did not pay off. Impressive, Seif. Most impressive. 0/2
6) Thermodynamics. Gimme. 3/0
Dave M day 1 v Jesse LLL
A 3/6 to start the new season, and excited to be back after summer. Common D today.
1 : ) I recall there being only 2 women only events and Synchronised Swimming was the one which fit (plus I couldn’t remember the other one). D1
2 : ( Was very confident about Birmingham for some reason. D1
3 : ( Had no idea and so guessed Richie (Rich). D2
4 : ) Seemed like a gimme for both my opponents after it came quickly to me, so D0. Unfortunately Gideon didn’t get it, burning my D0 and being the big contributor to what is a blowout 6-2 loss against him. I’m now 0 wins in 7 matchups…
5 : ( Like Ben I thought ‘Rexha’ looked very Portuguese so went with Brazilian. D3
6 : ) Simple science question I thought but I was out of low scores to assign. D2
Brad day 1

1 :) Synchronized Swimming. How does one do this solo? D11
2 :( Selma. Embarrassing! I almost switched to Montgomery but keep thinking I should stick with my first answer. D01
3 :( Tony. I was thinking movie or book, TV didn't even occur to me. D20
4 :( The Atlantic. Went for a publication with a geographic name, seems silly now.
5 :) Albanian. I knew this about Rita Ora, seemed right for others. D22
6 :( Motion. D33

Seif Day 1 vs. Andy (LLL)
A surprising (to me) 5/6 to start out the season. I thought I had only 3 or 4. I ended up with a common D, which is rare for me to do, but Andy and my LL opponent are pretty similar.
1. Synchronized swimming :), D33. This was a complete wild guess, and I’m very surprised to get it. I seriously regret the D33, but I really imagined this was some sort of crazy thing few people had heard of.
2. Montgomery :), D00. Had to go with D00 because both my opponents are very strong at American history. I have to admit that after writing down Montgomery I then questioned whether the answer might have been Birmingham. I was worried about this until I submitted, but luckily I went with my first answer.
3. Ken :(, D22. No clue.
4. Silicon Valley :), D11. It would have just killed me if I hadn’t gotten this. When I saw the question initially I had no clue, but then after about two minutes it hit me and I couldn’t believe I’d struggled on it. I bet there will be a number of people kicking themselves about this one.
5. Albania :), D22. How do you like them apples, Andy?! By far my best get from my pop music studying. I remember that Ava Max said she is completely Albanian, which made the answer pretty clear. Without her on the list I would have had no clue whatsoever.
6. Thermodynamics :), D11. Only complete gimme of the day for me.
