Brian Day 25 vs Dave M (LLL)

4/6 when I thought (wrongly, along with everyone else) I had 5.  Four categories with 2 handles of below doomed me:  I'm in the top spot of the relegation zone, 2 behind Steiny, so I need a win and a Steiny loss to avoid my first trip to Rundle D (I have the tiebreaker), where I'll be in good company considering Brad's promotion. I don't think there's a good chance of that, though, there are no questions I'm likely to get that he'll miss.  Seif, I didnt' realized how crushed you got in the last half.

1) Casablanca  3/3  Very interesting, I've never seen it, but know that Rick's Bar is the main setting.  I thought it would play easy, but I had to give it D3 considering my opponents strengths and weaknesses.  Unfortunately for me, I think Steiny was a film major, so this should seal my fate in C

2) Parshi 1/1 I had no idea, but both my opponents got the last India question correct

3) Ellis 1/0  I hope this isn't just a NY gimme

4) Raphael 0/1  should be a gimme for anyone under the age of 50

5) Thong 2/2 I had this at flexible leather cord, the undergarment cinched it.  Mirkin, growing up I also knew thongs as what we now call flip-flops (sandals), until the new improved version of thong took over.

6) Foreman 2/2  I have no idea why I was confident in this, he just fit the time frame.  I think Foreman was Rumble in the Jungle, which I guess he lost.

Have a great summer everyone!!

Dave M day 25 v Brian LLL

3/6 to end a dispiriting season and relegation to C where hopefully I’ll fare better next time. Like Seif I got 3/6 assuming 5.

1 : ( Philadelphia. Had no idea Casablanca was a play first. D33

2 : ) Telugu. Initially thought Tamil but then remembered Bengaluru/Bangalore is in Andhra Pradesh and was renamed to its “more Telugu” name a couple of years ago. D22

3 : ) Ellis Island. Gimme of the day. D00

4 : ) Leonardo. Or maybe this was the gimme. D11

5 : ( Garter. I was over-confident about this one and didn’t think more widely. In Australia this question would be worded very differently – thongs are a type of sandal over there. D21

6 : ( Foreman. Looks like this might be the MCW. I thought it would be the correct answer. D12

See you next season!

brad day25

2/6 vs friedlandmj

tie for best correct answers over season as well as lowest allowed resulted in e rundle championship and promotion to d!

1) weekend at bernies d2
nope and good q

2) punjabi d3
no idea

3) ellis island d1/0
nyc gimme?

4) leonardo d0/1
child of 80s/90s gimme

5) belt d2/1
nope

6) foreman d1/2
would have got frazier but not him

David S Day 25

3/6 on a day I was confident I had 5. This was how the whole second half of the season went for me after what was a fantastic first half. I was at the top of the relegation zone going into today and will need a win plus a bit of help to get out of it.

1. My Big Fat Greek Wedding :(, D32. Off by a mile. This was the only one I expected to get wrong.

2. Tamil :(, D21. Shocked this was wrong. I felt nearly certain.

3. Ellis Island :), D11. NYC gimme.

4. Leonardo :), D00. This took me longer to recognize than it should have.

5. Thong :), D13. Learned something from the question.

6. Foreman :(, D22. I really thought George Foreman beat Ali. Guess not!

Have a great summer, everyone!

Brian Day 24

4/6 and hopeful to avoid relegation.  I'm a spot above Steiny and we have the same number of points.  This is my worst QPct in 8 seasons/2 years, I'm looking forward to the one days

1) The Four Tops 2/1   I felt pretty confident, though if you had asked before reading the question if those songs were performed by the Temptations or the Four Tops it would be a coin flip.

2) Euler 3/3 Glad for so many math questions this season, especially one that is near impossible unless you took several math courses in college.  I didn't know he was responsible for widespread use of i, pi, and e, but my favorite equation is  so I took that as a hint.

3) le cruet  2/0  I knew exactly what this was referring to, but couldn't get close enough

4) chimney sweep 1/2   Mary Poppins

5) ankh 0/1  Probably a Raiders of the Lost Ark question for me

6) The Sun Also Rises 1/2 Gone with the wind fits the line much better than the sun also rises.

Dave M day 24

A 3/6 today (assuming typo gets waived) which I feel happy with – thought I was going to do worse on today’s questions.

1 : ( The Troubadors. Just a random singing-related word beginning with T. D22

2 : ( Hegel. Of course it’s Euler. Was unlikely to ever get this so not too disappointed. D02

3 : ) Le Creusot. Close enough I think. Don’t have one but I’ve seen them at higher-end stores. D10

4 : ) Chimney Sweep. Dick van Dyke in 1964 can only mean Mary Poppins. D11

5 : ( Coptic Cross. Never heard of Ankh and surprised everyone posting so far knows it. So my D23 may not have been a good idea.

6 : ) Gone with the Wind. Very lucky guess. Assumed the film would follow shortly after the book. D31

David S Day 24

Very happy with a 4/6. I felt like 4 was a hard ceiling for me today, so happy to get all of the ones where I had any chance.

1. Supremes :(, D33. Glad I could at least think of any answer.

2. Euler :), D12. Felt pretty good about this. Euler was such a huge name in math then, and I was pretty sure he had introduced a bunch of new symbols.

3. Sabatier :(, D00. No idea. But my opponents are both good at food/drink, so low D.

4. Chimney sweep :), D12. Had an “aha moment” here. I wrote hatter at first but then (surprisingly) picked up on the Mary Poppins reference.

5. Ankh :), D21. Gimme for me. Can’t decide how easy this will play, but I’m guessing not too hard.

6. Gone with the wind :), D21. Another aha moment. I was considering “It’s a wonderful life,” but then this occurred to me and it seemed like a much better guess.

brad day 24

2/6 vs katzA

1) supremes d2/2
nope

2) riemann d3/3
ugh, something i likely would have got in college

3) le creuset d0/0

4) coal mining d1/1
thought i had this

5) ankh d1/2

6) for whom the bell tolls d2/1

Brian Day 23

3/6 and was certain I had 5.  Oops

1) Rhododendrum 2/2 I couldn't think of a plant with helio in its name, so took a guess.  Never heard of heliotrope. That's okay, I definitely have the next five questions correct.

2) Survivor 1/0  Inspired by Biosphere 2?  Must be Survivor.  But what about the Orwell clue?  Never mind that, not important.  At least I defended low

3) Hendrix 2/2  Easy for me, don't know how it will play

4) Hispaniola 0/2  Very pleased to have figured this out, though perhaps for the wrong reason.  Figured Saint Domingue had to do with Santo Domingo

5) Hajj 3/1  Seemed Arabic, so I was confident this was referring to the Seven Pillars of Islam. What an easy question.

6) Fountainhead 1/1  Never read it but I know there's an architect and collectivism in the book.

Dave M day 23

3/6 with the geography questions saving me from another ignominious total. Almost certainly relegation bound to C.

1 : ( Bluebonnet. Never heard of Heliotrope. D20

2 : ) Big Brother. I knew the format started in the Netherlands and the timing and question lined up. D01

3 : ( Morrison. Wrong 60s rock star. D12

4 : ) Hispaniola. Saint Domingue was the prior name for Haiti. D33

5 : ) Abu Dhabi. The seven Emirates of the UAE - if only there were more questions like this. I have done work in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the past. D22

6 : ( Atlas Shrugged. Right author, wrong book (never read either). D11

David S Day 23

4/6. I’m at the top of the relegation zone in B, so this season could go either way.

1. Daisy :(, D22. I had nothing here.

2. Big Brother :), D12. Can’t believe I got this. I was deciding between this and Survivor but expecting that both were likely wrong.

3. Garcia :(, D33. Nope!

4. Hispaniola :), D21. Felt good about this guess. Seemed like it had to be Haiti/DR with the question’s focus on the island.

5. Dubai :), D10. Good list question. I bet this plays fairly easy.

6. The Fountainhead :), D01. I knew this even though I’ve never read it. And it seems like a friendly question for my opponents.

brad day23

2) big brother d0/1

3) hendrix d2/2
lucky guess

4) dominica d2/2
i knew what they were referring to (visiting d.r. in november), but couldnt come up with the bigger island name

5) ramadan d3/3
knew this was wrong, figured was days of week and hoping the d doesnt kill me here

6) the fountainhead d1/0

Brian Day 22

3/6 and primed to get my first demotion to D.    Thanks Dave M for the Thomas the Train info, I luckily avoided that with my kids.   Belated congrats to Dave S for his mid-season performance!

1) Madonna 1/0  no clue.

2) Orinoco 1/1  I guess Africa has rainy areas.  Feel like this is a gimme for everyone but me

3) depaul 2/2 no idea, and even less of an idea after seeing the answer.

4) Matthau 0/2  Had a feeling this was the movie Odd Couple, and I know they made Grumpy Old Men movies in the 90s.  Wow, Seif, nice get.

5) Catherine 2/1 Glad they didn't ask for last names.  I haven't seen it yet, but this is a backdoor theater question as Six is very popular.

6) Craps 3/3  Easy for me, I was a big craps player in my youth, and craps means you rolled a 2, 3 or 12.  (uh oh, if it's guessable via epithet my D3 will hurt)

Dave M day 22 vs Brad LLL

Another 1/6 for me today and consequently a loss to Brad 3-1. Only one I got right was Craps which seemed to be the only one that matched both epithet and popular US casino game. Missed Congo which I should have got – for some reason focused on the Americas and therefore guessed Orinoco. Was a mile off on the others, disappointed I didn’t get Catherine (guessed Mary – wives of Henry VIII?).

Brian the day 21 list of names are the trains that feature in Thomas the Tank Engine!

David S Day 22

4/6 on a day that seems like it may play hard.

1. Doola :(, D02. No idea.

2. Congo :), D11. A guess, but I felt good about it.

3. Eastman :(, D22. He gave money to MIT and otherwise fit the clue, so I was hopeful here.

4. Lemon :), D23. Good and rare movie get for me. Glad spelling doesn’t count.

5. Catherine :), D31. Great question! I was certain on this one.

6. Craps :), D10. Didn’t know for certain, but seemed like it could be an epithet.

brad day22

2/6 vs mirkin

1) simon d2/2
nope

2) congo d1/0
somewhat lucky guess just trying to think of large rivers

3) marquette d3/3
usually can think of some sports connection on these, but had nothing good here

4) de niro d2/2
nope

5) catherine d1/1
my wife and i watched the tudors

6) blackjack d0/1
i dont get the numbers connection

Brian Day 21

2/6 today, no chance for more.  And I guess Baywatch wasn't such a horrible miss by me yesterday, it had a 17% get rate.  To answer Ben, the movie is Pee Wee's Big Adventure, starring Paul Reubens as Pee Wee Herman (I know, Pee Wee Herman isn't his real name, weird.)

1) Positron 1/2 physics gimme

2) Purim 0/0  Almost as much of a gimme for me as Belinda Carlisle.  Almost

3) Miyagi 3/1

4) indochine 1/1

5) Fortnite 2/3

6) Adam 2/2  no idea what this is even referring to, but my guess is To All the Boys I've Loved Before

Dave M day 21

Just the 2/6 for me today, should have been a 3 at least.

1 : ) Positron. I think we might have had this question, or similar, before. D31

2 : ) Purim. I watched “For Your Consideration” on the flight home from NZ last week, with a plot somewhat revolving around Purim, so it was very front of mind. D10

3 : ( Kurosawa. No idea. D23

4 : ( Chintz. I have never heard of Chinoiserie so put down a China-related style I have heard of. D22

5 : ( Halo. Same random guess as Seif. D11

6 : ( John. Also same random guess as Seif. Of course it’s the trains, can’t believe I missed this one. D02

David S Day 21

3 (or 4 if Thorsten is in a generous mood)/6.

1. Positron :), D22.  Physics gimme.

2. Purim :), D10.  Still harder than the GDP question :).

3. Ishiguro :), D32.  Just read Remains of the Day.  I was going to get this right as a result, but I'm surprised I got the spelling just right.

4. Chinois :/, D21.  I'd mark this wrong, but maybe Thorsten will be generous.  I just wrote the word Chinese in French with no expectation it would be correct.  But I did know that lacquer was big in China around that time.

5. Halo :(, D03.  No idea.

6. John :(, D11.  Didn't pick up on the train.  Kind of surprised this didn't ring a bell for me.

brad day21

4/6 vs winnr

1) positron d2/2
i knew this had positive charge

2) purim d1/0
jewish gimme

3) ichiro d3/3
no idea, went with the baseball player that actually got close on the sounds like metric (even though its his first name)

4) chinois d2/2
knew chinese in french but this was as far as i could get

5) minecraft d1/1
learned this over the weekend helping my son with a minecraft lego set while he was wearing a minecraft shirt

6) thomas d0/1
im going to now have that song stuck in my head all day

Ben day 20

A near forfeit miss has spurred me into posting.

1. :) French 75. booze
2. :) Abbas. Easy to defend against LLL opponent Katz.
3. :( Contractor.
4 :( Bosch. who is the actor?
5 :) Baywatch. A happy switch from my initial thought of Melrose.
6 :( Juliard. I don't really have many dance options.

Brian day 20

4/6 with my best wild guess ever and perhaps my worst miss ever

1) French 75. D2/2  the wild ass guess of all wild ass guesses.  I can not believe I landed this.  He was clearly clueing French in some way, so I was going through possible French names for weapons. Then I thought the 3inch might be a clue, and converted to millimeters. French 75 sounded vaguely familiar but I did not think I had a shot

2) Abbas 1/1 Serving his 18th year of a 4 year term as head of his democratic egalitarian entity. Gimme for this crowd.

3) Flexor 1/2 welcome to the gun show

4) Reubens 0/0 didn’t understand at first how there could be a Flemish Baroque painter named Pee Wee Herman,  my opponents will get this via the art route.

5) Blind Date 3/3 not only is it an utter failure on my part to not get this, but I assigned 3s.

6) Hayes 2/1 I know her name and yet always get questions about her wrong.

brad day20

2/6 vs friedlandw

1) gimlet d1/1
thought this had a shot

2) abbas d0/0

3) flexors d2/2

4) julia d2/3
no idea

5) dawsons creek d1/1
of course it is and i watched it too (and did not watch my guess)

6) ailey d3/2
nope

Dave M day 20 v Pelc LLL

Yikes, my first 1/6 in a while. And I was miles off on my wrong ones – could theoretically have got Baywatch but was blinded by Seinfeld and put that down instead. The only one was the gimme in this group, Mahmoud Abbas.

David S Day 20

2/6 on a hard day for me. I had no chance at more and even picked up one on a good guess.

1. Bellini :(, D10. Felt good about this one. But I’ve never even heard of the first one, so I had no chance.

2. Abbas :), D01. Gimme.

3. Paired :(, D12. Felt like a good guess.

4. Van Damme :), D32. I was proud of myself for coming up with a name that could be Flemish and where the timing worked. But no clue beyond that.

5. Baywatch :), D21. Glad to get this. I remember the quote about it, but when I submitted I was very uncertain it was actually correct.

6. Smith :(, D23. No chance.

Friday, June 10, 2022

Brian Day 19

3/6 Seif, LOL to your GDP comment

1) Kashmir 2/1 no clue

2) pewdiedie 3/2 no clue

3) pale pale horse 2/2 rings a bell, never could have gotten there.   This will make me 1-11 in literature this season, a .091 rate versus my usual .463

4) Blige 0/3  I thought of the Super Bowl halftime show

5) air conditioning 1/0  Carrier = A/C

6) Gross domestic product 1/1 Hesitated for a bit as i forgot the diff between GDP and GNP, but "within a country's borders" cinched it, plus I couldn't imagine him asking about GNP

Dave M day 19 vs Seif LLL

Ridiculously I lost my matchup yesterday to the lowest ranked player in rundle B, he got 5 questions right to my 4. Oh well. 4/6 for me today vs Seif. We each defended perfectly so I walk away with it 4 (4) – 2 (3)

1 : ) Uttar Pradesh. What I find most remarkable about this one is it still has ~20% of the population of India despite having large chunks hived off into other new states relatively recently

2 : ( Liberty. Random guess. Never heard of Ninja

3 : ( Pail Pale. Another random guess. D33

4 : ) Mary J Blige. I know she was part of the early 1990s hip hop crew from LA because she was in the group that performed at the Superbowl half time show this year. That was all I had to go on. D12

5 : ) Air conditioning. The Carrier last name renders this gimmeish I think. D00

6 : ) Gross Domestic Product. The net exports provoked a GDP/GBP wobble but “within a country’s borders” landed me on the right side of the two options. D11

brad day19

3/6 vs kim

1) punjab d2/2
nope

2) ninja d3/2
i remember when this deal happened and thought i was in the wrong biz.  not his stream, but i love the games done quick series

3) pale pal d2/3
no idea

4) elliot d0/1
nope

5) air conditioning d1/1
familiar with carrier

6) gross domestic product d1/0
econ gimme

David S Day 19 vs. Mirkin (LLL)

3/6 and no chance at the rest.

1. Uttar Pradesh :), D20. I expect this to play hard, but it was right in my wheelhouse and should give Mirkin no issue.

2. Pewdiepie :(, D12. No idea. I surprised myself with even being able to come up with something that could be called an actual guess.

3. Pale Dance in the Pale Moonlight :(, D23.

4. Franklin :(, D02. No idea. Even with this miss and my correct answer to #1, I’m still doing better in pop music in this bizarre season than in geography.

5. Air Conditioning:), D11. It was the name Carrier that made it clear.

6. Gross Domestic Product :) D31. I think I read about this once.

Brian Day 18

 4/6

1) Mamma Mia 0/0 I especially loved watching the sequel with my daughters, as it depicted the main character sleeping with three different men. Not uncomfortable at all.

2) Theology 2/1 no clue

3) Old Bay 1/1  Maryland = crabs, the spice must be Old Bay

4) Catcher 3/3 was going to make a joke answer with wicket

5) Montenegro 1/2  I learned from the obvious-in-hindsight Sierra Leone (Lion Mountains) question a few seasons ago; I looked for a country with mountain in the name, and it translated perfectly

6) Betamax 2/2  Gimme for an 80s kid.  Especially an 80s kid who is sad that no one knows who Belinda Carlisle is

Dave M day 18

Today bodes well for a rare win with a 4/6 against the lowest placed person in Rundle B. Plus a gimmeish sports question for a New Zealander that plays super hard for Americans.

1 : ) Mamma Mia! I remember this was (and is) ridiculously popular. What a meal ticket for all involved. D22 and feel silly about that defense in retrospect.

2 : ( Metaphysics. Would never have got ontology. D22

3 : ( Crabcake seasoning. East coast question, I assume. YEKIOYD. D11

4 : ) Wicket Keeper. This must be nearly impossible for most. A nice gift of a question for me. D33

5 : ) Montenegro. With those funny consonants next to each other it looked very Balkan, so went through the countries of ex-Yugoslavia before coming to the one that’s also translated to Black Mountain in its English spelling. D11

6 : ) Betamax. Gimme of the day I think. D00

David S Day 18

3/6.

1. Mamma Mia :), D10. I remember her being in this and figured it was a huge financial success.

2. Philosophy :(, D22. Don’t think I could have gotten this with 100 guesses.

3. Old Bay :), D11. Yummy.

4. Bowler :(, D31. No idea.

5. Kosovo :(, D23. Bad miss. I knew it was in the area but couldn’t remember the country. But I totally missed that Montenegro literally translates to Black Mountain.

6. Betamax :), D02. Before my time, but not so far before my time that I didn’t know about it.

1) twilight zone d1

2) mockingbird d3

3) wienerschnitzel d2

4) bangles d0
felt good about this too

5) foal d1
ugh i umpired little league games in high school where the leagues had horse types (mustang, pinto, etc.) and of course this was the one i didnt think of

6) zelda d2
couldnt get away from video games and this seemed like a better guess than kong

Brian Day 17

Yesterday broke a 7 day losing streak.  4/6 today, no chance at the two I missed.

1) The Twilight Zone 2/1  Came to me right away, it fit the description, but never heard the term used that way.

2) Jackdaw 3/3  Never heard of this

3) Fahrvugneugen 2/2 Fahrvugneugen (sp?) was a Volkswagon advertising catchphrase in the 80s , I don't know what it means but hoped they borrowed it.  Have never heard of Ostpolitik

4) The Go-Go's 1/2  I'd have an easier time forgetting my children than Belinda Carlisle.

5) Colt 1/1 I went through sports teams named after horses and got there right after the Broncos.

6) Jenga 0/0 Should be the gimme of the day.

Dave M day 17

Tough day with just a 2/6.

1 : ( Deep Blue. Great question. One I could potentially have guessed and would feel great had I done so. D32

2 : ( Sparrow. Didn’t know if there might be some literary link to the later more famous Jack Sparrow character. D03

3 : ) Ostpolitik. Right in my wheelhouse but suspect it plays hard. Will probably draw a D0 for me though. D20

4 : ( Bananarama. At least I’ve never heard of the go-gos. D22

5 : ( Mustang. I don’t know my horse types. D11

6 : ) Jenga. This one at least I was relatively confident about. D11

David S Day 17

2 or 3/6. Pretty happy with anything here, as I was worried about a 0 or 1 when I submitted.

1. Twilight :/, D20. I was happy when I thought of Twilight but didn’t realize that as entertainment, that’s a series of movies, not a show. So I didn’t take it any further.

2. Vulture :(, D22. No idea.

3. Eastern Policy :(, D13. I missed the part where it said you had to respond in German. I’d be frustrated except I don’t think I could have come up with the translation, so it was kind of moot.

4. The Who :(, D32. No idea. Amazingly this is the first pop music question I’ve missed this season.

5. Colt :), D11. Felt like this was a good guess, but I definitely wasn’t certain.

6. Jenga :), D01. Also wasn’t certain, but also seemed like a good guess.

Brian Day 16 vs Ben (LLL)

hopefully a 4/6 is enough to get me out of relegation for the time being

1) Bakery 2/3 no idea

2) Gluten 1/0 made sense

3) Minutemen 0/1 gimme

4) Photography 3/2 no clue

5) The Beverly Hillbillies 1/1 If you don't know that they packed up their bags and moved to Beverly (Hills, that is)  you might get tripped up by the Missouri reference. Otherwise should play easy.

6) Hyundai 2/2  All I had was Santa Fe, hoped that was it

Dave M day 16 vs Kim LLL

3/6 for me today too.

1 : ( Bookstore. I was a mile off. D22

2 : ) Gluten. Looks like this might be the gimme of the day. D11

3 : ( Cavalry. Great question and I knew the answer but could not remember it for the life of me. D33

4 : ( Pop Culture. Another big miss. D22

5 : ) Beverly Hillbillies. The inflation dated the program and meant it could only be one thing. D11

6 : ) Hyundai. Briefly got sidetracked by (Kia) Sedona but don’t think it’s on I-10. Figure this plays easy. D00

David S Day 16 vs. Brad (LLL)

3/6 vs. Brad, but he beats me on D.

1. Candy Store :(, D22. No idea.

2. Gluten :), D11. Didn’t exactly know this, but what else could it have been.

3. Minutemen :), D00. Solid American history question. Wonder how easy this will play.

4. Video :), D33. No idea. I guess I should have gone with an even more obvious guess.

5. Beverly Hillbillies :), D21. A rare TV question I got right away.

6. Kia :), D12. So mad at myself for this one. I recognized that it had to be the maker of the Santa Fe, but then I incorrectly remembered which car company makes it.

brad day16

3/6 vs seif

1) barber shop d2/2

2) gluten d1/1

3) reserves d2/0

4) mime d3/3
no idea

5) beverly hillbillies d0/1
rare tv gimme for me

6) hyundai d1/2
considered chevy for a bit because of the tahoe, but once i thought of santa fe this made more sense

Well, I got some sunburn this weekend, serves me right for wishing it upon others.  (sorry Debbie!) And then I got burnt by today's questions, when changing my answer at the last second on one question and not changing my answer on another cost me two correct answers

Glad to have you back, Dave M!

1) Farberge 1/0  I always wondered why a seemingly Russian product had a French name.  Maybe I get some art points here

2) Cincinnati 2/3  Had Honolulu the entire time, as I know Hawaii was a monarchy, then thought King and Richards didn't sound Hawaiian to me, and went with the Queen City.

3) Coster 0/1  Gimme for me, had it at American Flyers, and have also seen Bull Durham, Field of Dreams and Tin Cup.

4) Animal Crossing 1/1 Was convinced I had this despite not knowing the game.  Have never heard of Crossy Road and I'm regretting my defense

5) Jainism 3/2 Towards the end was thinking Jainism is probably a more recent religion, maybe I should switch it to Zoroastrianism.   But I kept it.

6) Swedish 2/2  Bad mistake, but at least I never really considered Icelandic.  I thought Hans Christian Anderson was Danish, and so was deciding between Finnish and Swedish for the Norse/Thorsteinsson connection.  Iceland has an Althing, for Odin's sake, straight out of Norse mythology.  I should have thought of that.  I feel like all you world travelers will get this easily.

Dave M day 15

I'm back after my 2 weeks travelling and filling in answers in advance. I left reasonably optimistic – I got mostly 4/6s over the weeks – but have been absolutely crushed in rundle B. I think prior to Friday (which I won) I lost 8 in a row. Will almost certainly be back in C next season.

Anyway back into the regular posting schedule. 3/6 today and I expect to resume my losing streak.

1 : ( Swarovski. Bad miss. Of course it's Faberge. Would have got this had I thought about easter one minute longer. D10

2 : ( New Orleans. Another bad miss. I know this. I've been there. D02

3 : ) Kevin Costner. Hopefully I pick up points here at least. I guessed Tin Cup 1996 and then one of the late 1980s baseball ones must be Field of Dreams. D22

4 : ( Chicken Run. No idea. Strange name for a game. D33

5 : ) Zoroastrianism. Persian religion = Parsi. D11

6 : ) Icelandic. Norse-looking words with funny letters = can only be Icelandic. D21

David Day 15 vs. Ben (LLL)

3/6, with a bad miss in there.

1. Cartier :(, D10. I picked up on all the clues but then inexplicably mixed up Cartier and Faberge. Oh well.

2. Honolulu :), D02. Spent the most time on this question and happy to get it. Once I realized it could be about the Hawaiian monarchy, I felt pretty good about it.

3. Murray :(, D22. No idea, but maybe I could have eventually pulled this off.

4. Chicken run :(, D11. No idea.

5. Zoroastrianism :), D21. Happy to get this. I didn’t get the clues in the question, but unless it was Hinduism, this seemed like the only answer that could fit.

6. Icelandic :), D33. Thorsten has been very kind to me this season, but this one takes the cake. I just got back from Iceland a few day ago and recognized the letters that are only found in that language. Otherwise I would never have guessed this.
