3) thiamine 1/2 My least confident answer today, as I considered thiacin, thiamin, and thylacine (my favorite marsupial)
4) Young Turks 2/2 Ottoman leads to Turks, 'actually various ages' leads to Young Turks. Rod Stewart has a song Young Turks which oddly never says Young Turks in the lyrics, so I looked this up years ago.
5) Leeward Islands 2/1 Opposite of Windward
