Ben Day 25

3/6

1 :( Undoing. D12. 0(0)-2(1)
2 :) turkey. D00. 0(1)-2(2)
3 :) goya. D11. 1(2)-3(3)
4 :( sundress. D33. 1(2)-3(3)
5 :) Barty D21. 2(3)-3(3)
6 :( maserati. D22. couldn't picture it.

Mirkin wins on D to leave a disgusting taste in my mouth for the off-season.

Brian Day 25 vs FriedlandMJ

3/6 gives me a tie with my best season of 90/150, but it looks like Seif wraps up the LLL as champion, congrats Dave.

1) Unloveable 2/3  I'd seen plenty of ads for this, but it just didn't stick strongly enough in my head

2) Turkey 2/1  Seems like an easy geography question, will hopefully get me some points

3) Goya 0/1 Goya, oh boya!

4) Raincoat 1/0 no clue, but being the sexist that I am, I gave my female opponents low D

5) Court 3/2 Two seasons in a row with Australian women's tennis questions?  I know what to brush up on in the offseason

6) recycling 1/2 This was a math question to me, sounded like a mobius strip with arrows

Happy holidays and especially happy 2021!!!

Debbie Days 24 and 25

Kept my 2/6 streak going until today, where I proudly end the season with a 5/6!  And thanks to a bunch of recent ties, seems I am safely staying in D!  Happy holidays and stay healthy!!

Day 25

1 :) Insecure. Watched the pilot but didn't stick with it, though I hear its' great
2 :) Turkey. Psyched for this rare geography get for me
3 :) Goya. Also thanks to the political news this year - though I likely would have guessed it anyways
4 :) wrap.  Hopefully I didn't need dress?  Think this is extremely well known among the ladies, to be sexist.
5 :( Jones. I don't follow tennis
6 :) Recycling. As soon as I thought about the 3 arrows I got it. Thought it would be very obvious but what do I know

Day 24

1 :) PS 5. Know almost nothign about gaming but keep hearing about the shortage of / desire for these
2 :( Totally missed this... was thinking the song referenced this robot and was completely lost
3 :( NAFTA.  Knew it was wrong and now I hear TPP I recognize it, but wouldn't have pulled it out.
4 :( Dolby.  Also totally missed this. I guess makes sense but was never gonna get it
5 :( ?. Totally missed this too - don't know enough about Earhart to have been able to get it
6 :) Glee. Finally, one I know! (And appreciate Brian's shoutout to Freaks and Geeks)

Dave M Day 25 v Carr LLL

Final day and rounding off with a Carr matchup. He’ll almost certainly win based on today’s questions. Happy holidays everyone!

1 : ) Insecure. I’ve seen ads, but not the show. D22

2 : ) Turkey. Geography gimme. D00

3 : ) Goya. Certain news events earlier in the year led me to the understanding that Goya was number 1 in the US. D11

4 : ( X-Line. Guessed based on the shape that ‘crosses at the chest’ might mean. Wrap seems really simple. D33

5 : ( Boyle. For some reason Tennis news has dropped off my radar the past 24 months, so my female tennis stars list still stops at the Williams sisters. D11

6 : ( Circling. Thought this might be the sign for a roundabout for some reason. Of course it’s recycling. D22

Jesse Day 25

3/6. Have a good off-season everyone.

1. Issa Rae, Yvonne Orji, Natasha Rothwell, and Amanda Seales star in what current HBO television series, based in part on Rae's acclaimed comedy web series The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl?
Correct Answer: INSECURE
Your Answer: Insecure
Points Assigned: 1

I have seen advertisements, but have yet to watch it.

2. Virtually the entirety of the southern shore of the Black Sea is the northern coastline of what country?
Correct Answer: TURKEY
Your Answer: Turkey
Points Assigned: 1

Easy geography question.

3. What company, which proclaims itself the "largest Hispanic-owned food company in the United States" and is famous for its Adobo among many other products, was founded in 1936 by Spanish immigrants Carolina and Don Prudencio Unanue?
Correct Answer: GOYA
Your Answer: Goya
Points Assigned: 0

Seems like a gimmie.

4. Invented by designer Diane von Furstenberg in 1974, the common dress that typically is cut knee-length with long sleeves, crosses at the chest, and cinches at the waist, and is often made of elaborately patterned and colorful jersey material, is most commonly known by what name?
Correct Answer: WRAP DRESS
Your Answer: The King Gustav
Points Assigned: 2

Shoot, my wife and I used to watch project runway and I did think of the wrap dress, but then I dismissed a perfectly good guess and put down a stupid answer because I thought I had no hope.

5. Name the Australian tennis star who, since June 2019, has held the #1 spot in the WTA rankings, ahead of current #2 Simona Halep of Romania.
Correct Answer: ASHLEIGH BARTY
Your Answer: Smith
Points Assigned: 2

Never heard of her. I do not follow women's tennis.

6. In 1970, college student Gary Anderson won a design contest with a logo that contains three arrows and a one-sided non-orientable surface. This design is still used today internationally as a symbol for what activity?
Correct Answer: RECYCLING
Your Answer: Rock Climbing
Points Assigned: 3

I knew this was gettable, but I have so much work on my plate today that I rushed it.

Seif Day 25

5/6 to end the season, which was better than I expected.  Brian, sadly for me the moon question yesterday was not pop music, which leaves me with 3 correct pop music questions for the season, tying but not beating my LL season record.  Can't complain, since I started out the season with the first 5 pop music questions incorrect and then got 3 of the final 5.  At least I got to briefly experience being a 0.600 pop music player.

1. The New Adventures of a Black Woman :(, D12.  No idea.

2. Turkey :), D11.  Geography gimme.

3. Goya :), D00.  Seems like the easiest question of the day by far.

4. Wrap :), D33.  I think this pays.  It was a *complete* throwaway answer, and I am floored that it's correct.  If I'd had any idea it was so guessable, I would have assigned harder D.

5. Barty :), D22.  I don't think I could have correctly answered "Who is the #1 WTA player?" but the Australian clue led me to her name.

6. Recycling :), D21.  I spent a couple of hours thinking about this one.  When I finally focused in on the 1970 clue, right around when Earth Day, etc., was getting started, it finally came to me, and once it did I was almost certain it was correct.

It's been a fun season, everyone!  Here's to a far better 2021!!!

Also, if anyone wants to play in the 2021 forecasting contest and didn't get my intro email about it, please let me know.

Brian day 24 vs Seif

4/6, defeating Dave 5(4)-2(3)

1) PS5 1/2 took a guess it would be the new system in the news as being impossible to buy

2) dark side of the moon 1/1 even if I hadn't seen pics on Twitter this weekend, I think this would have been a gimme from the album.  Does this give Seif another pop music question?

3) esea 3/0 I spent too much time figuring out the clapper, I just blanked on this pretty easy current events question. Knew it was a no brainer  for Dave.

4) clapper 2/3 took forever to get to, keep coming back to Walkman, synthesizer, other popular 80s technology which didn't fit the bill, before thinking specifically electrical with extension cord, light bulb, oh, light bulb! Clap on! Clap off! Clap on clap off.... THE CLAPPER!!!

5) Anthony 2/1 nope

6) Glee 0/2 Only watched a few episodes, but Sue Sylvester stood out. Had a momentary pause as Freaks and Geeks was also at a McKinley HS, but...Sue Sylvester.
