Dave M day 25

A 5/6 to round out what has feels like my best season in LL in ages. Congrats Ben on taking the LLL trophy.

1 : ) Marshmallow. I considered M&Ms and Maltesers but Marshmallow sounded best. D11

2 : ) Silver Linings Playbook. I knew the movie straightaway but took forever to remember the name. Glad I did. D12

3 : ) Vancouver. Alex Fraser = Canada and then I remembered the Lion’s Gate was in Vancouver. D32

4 : ( Apples. I could never have guessed Lotus. D20

5 : ) Ghetto. Jew knowledge. D01

6 : ) Milli Vanilli. I dimly remember the controversy and remembered that they were Europeans. D23

See you all next season!

Congrats to Ben on LLL Win (from Seif)

Kim beat me in LLL today, ensuring that Ben has won LLL for the season no matter how he does in today's match.  A sincere congratulations to him.

Kim Day 25

vs. Seif LLL

4/6 - Glad to get some today to convince me to keep trying next season!

1 :) Marshmallow.  I missed a question about DJ Marshmello in a recent season also described as a sugary treat and hoped this guess wasn't blinded by that. D12
2 :) Silver Linings Playbook.  I am not sure I have heard of Serena but I like J-Law. D33
3 :( Charleston.  It occurred to me to defend lower than 3 against my Australian LL opponent in case this was not a US city, but I didn't even think about Canada. D21
4 :( mushrooms.  D12
5 :) Ghetto.  D00
6 :) Milli Vanilli.  I still love listening to not Rob and Fab.  Blame it On the Rain makes for great karaoke.  I'm in Brian.

Jesse day 25

4/6 Have a good offseason everyone. Stay safe.

1. Until Android 10 in September 2019, versions of the mobile operating system were named in alphabetical order using a sugary treat-themed naming scheme. What was the name for Android version 6, which was released in 2015 between "Lollipop" and "Nougat"?
Correct Answer: MARSHMALLOW
Your Answer: Marshmallow
Points Assigned: 1

I am not an Android user. I considered Marshmallow and Marzipan. I thought Marshmallow sounded more familiar.

2. An acting duo that appeared together in 2015's Joy, 2014's Serena, and 2013's American Hustle first appeared together in what 2012 film?
Correct Answer: SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK
Your Answer: Silver Linings Playbook
Points Assigned: 1

I just knew the answer, but it took a while to remember the name.

3. The Lions Gate Bridge, the Granville Street Bridge, and the Alex Fraser Bridge are all bridges located within the metro area of what city?
Correct Answer: VANCOUVER
Your Answer: Chicago
Points Assigned: 3

I had no idea. Tried to choose between Chicago and Detroit. Both were wrong.

4. As per their name, a tribe in Greek mythology lured Odysseus's scouts to eat what, after which the men had to be dragged back to their ship and chained to benches?
Correct Answer: LOTUS
Your Answer: Oysters
Points Assigned: 2

I had no idea. I wish he had thrown in an extra clue, like it is also a car manufacturer. That still would not have helped me, but it would have been fun to hear the answer after pondering so many car manufacturers.

5. In the early 16th century, the government of the Republic of Venice forced the city's Jewish residents to live in an area known by what name—the first use of a term that endures to this day?
Correct Answer: GHETTO
Your Answer: Ghetto
Points Assigned: 2

I have been to the Venetian ghetto. I was told ghetto came from the word for foundry as there was previously a glass foundry where they forced the jews to live.

6. German-born model Rob Pilatus and French gymnast Fabrice Morvan did not sing on any successful pop albums from the 1980s, but most notably they didn't sing on the hit debut by what group?
Correct Answer: MILLI VANILLI
Your Answer: Milli Vannili
Points Assigned: 0

Good question. I think a lot of people will get it, but it could be harder for younger people.

Brian Day 25 vs Brad

After an unexpected win yesterday, 5/6 today leaves me in position to get promoted to B and get annihilated next season.  I'm one point (and the tiebreaker) behind the promotion zone.  Nice to see Seif safely out of relegation

1) Marshmallow 2/0  I've never owned an iPhone

2) The Silver Linings Playbook 0/2  American Hustle did this for me, otherwise no chance

3) Pittsburgh 2/2  Thought I had this, there are a lot of bridges over the three rivers

4) Lotus 3/3 I've read the Odyssey a few times, not sure how well-known lotus eaters are otherwise.

5) Ghetto 1/1 Easy for tribe members, very interesting to hear the origin of the term.  It's an obviously Italian word after seeing this question, but I never thought of it before.

6) Milli Vanilli.  1/1 Oo oo oo, I love you. My college roommate made a hysterical video of Bert and Ernie puppets lip syncing Milli Vanilli.  Thanks Dave for rubbing it in that you were in 3rd grade at this time. Speaking of 80s music, did I mention I'm smithing the Children of the 80s one-day on July 29th? (See you there, Debbie!)

Enjoy the off-season everyone (but come back on July 29th), and stay healthy!

brad day25

1) marachino cherry d1/1

2) silver linings playbook d0/1

3) pittsburgh d2/2

4) souls d2/2
no idea

5) ghetto d1/0
jewish gimme

6) b 52s d3/3
good q, completely missed the point

Ben day 25 v rando and Steiny

All to play for. 1 spot outside of promotion, and 1 point clear of seif in LLL. Getting promoted in LL is a mixed blessing, but winning LLL would be all upside. Hopefully Kim sticks it to seif and I beat Steiny, though neither of those are >50% propositions. 4/6.

1 :) marshmallow. Seemed the only reasonable guess.D11
2 :) silver linings playbook. D01
3 :( Pittsburg. It didn't Occur to me to think of non US cities. D12
4 :( jumping beans. I've heard of lotus eaters, but that was never going to come to me.d33
5 :) ghetto. Easy for the jews. D20
6 :) milli vanilli. I didn't know this for a fact but teased out the answer from the wording. I thought they were American.d22
