Glad to be back and to be starting the season with 4/6!  And in my first LLL I'm against Brad - I am Dllewelyn :))

1 :( Minnow.  1/2.  knew I wouldn't get it and thought I'd at least be clever (not really literature, I know).  Thought it was the one from Moby DIck but couldn't remember the name. And Argo also rang a bell as a boat but wasn't sure

2 :( BT. 2/1 All I could think of was British Telecom - is that still a thing?  Also knew there was another one and couldn't remember name - it was Vodafone so thanks all for reminding me. Never heard of O2.f

3 :) Rhesus  2/2- gimme for me. I think they test you for this when you have a baby to see if you match your baby? Or maybe I'm mixing up.

4 :) Interpreter of Maladies. 3/3  Never read, but familiar with it.  Kept having "Emperor of Maladies" in my head instead (great book / documentary about cancer) and finally remembered this.

5 :) Pick. 0/0 Seemed right and fairly easy?

6 :) Hawaii 5-0. 1/1 Glad I thought of this!

Dave M day 1 double up v Steiny LL and LLL

The rare double up occurring today, to kick off the season, between me and Steiny. A reasonable 4/6 today should give me a good shot, though reckon it will be a close one given the questions.

 

1 : ) Nautilus. My husband’s youtube stream sometimes has US military videos come up in it. D2

2 : ) O2. I was in London when the O2 opened and it was a big hit straight away. D2

3 : ( Bonobo. Guessed the wrong 6 letter monkey. D1

4 : ( Private Translator. Never heard of the real answer, happy with my D3

5 : ) Pick. Seemed like a gimme. D1

6 : ) Hawaii 5-0. This just seemed to fit really well. D0

Brian Day 1 vs rando and Ben

 Welcome back!  First, thank you to everyone (especially Kim and Debbie!) who participated in my Children of the 80s One-Day, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.  

Starting the season with a 4/6, but unsure of my defense.  Also, I was unexpectedly and unfairly promoted up to B rundle, where I am sure to be demolished and a 4/6 won't cut it.

1) Nautilus  1/2 (for Ben) First thing that popped into my mind, probably from Tom Clancy books, and it felt better than the Pequod or the Argo.  I think I defended too high for Ben.

2) Virgin 1/0  Was between Virgin and Orange.  I"ve never heard of O2, is that Orange?  Regretting low defense, I feel like this is a recent naming by an obscure company.

3) Rhesus   0/1  Gimme for me, but unsure how common knowledge of the Rh factor is.

4) Life of Pi  3/3 Never heard of it

5) Pick 2/1   Can't believe this is correct.  Seems like the default answer, unless you talk yourself out of it, as I almost did.  Plectrum sounds sort of like pluck, but -ectrum sounds electric, so I was between pick and whammy bar, though I was convinced neither was correct and it would be the thingy which can hold down the strings higher up.  (I just looked it up, it's called a capo.)  I ultimately decided I'd be angrier at myself for answering whammy bar and seeing pick was correct than I would be if I chose pick and whammy bar was correct.  I have a strange feeling Ben has played guitar

6) Hawaii 5-0  2/2 An all-time great theme song, I definitely saw reruns as a kid.  Okay, maybe they weren't reruns. 

Nice defense Ben, we have a 4(4)-4(3) tie.

Seif Day 1 vs. Pelc (LLL)

3/6 to start off the season.  Good to be back!  I hope everyone has had a good summer.

1. Nautilus :), D11.  I was pretty sure this was right.  Glad to get it.  Not sure how hard this will end up being, and I wonder whether my D was too low.

2. Excel :(, D32.  Was pretty confident that this was right, but now I see that the Excel Center is a separate thing near the old Millennium Dome.  Too bad.

3. Rhesus :), D23.  I've known this term for a while.  Again, worried I messed up D here, but this time by making it too high.

4. Two Jobs :(, D22.  No clue at all.

5. Pick :), D01.  Seemed like the only possible thing it could be.  I gave this very low D because I think it will play very easy.  It popped right into my head, and it's not like I know anything about this subject.

6. NCIS :(, D10.  No idea.  Just picked a crime show I thought was on CBS.  Low D because both my opponents are good at televsion.
