Dave M day 25

Happy holidays everyone! Another 3/6 to finish the season in my usual mid table C mediocrity.

1 : ( Sugar Ray.  Never heard of Jelly Roll Morton. D33

2 : ) Hundred Years War. Was reasonably confident with a possible alternative of black death. D10

3 : ) Limousine. I briefly considered Sedan but that’s the name of a still existing town. Then remembered Limousin in the middle of France which I think is SW-ish enough to count.

4 : ) David Brent. I enjoyed this greatly when it came out but struggled to watch it again a few years ago. D12

5 : ( Assignment. Annoyed to miss this one. In my company we normally shorten Deed of Assignment to Assignment. D01

6 : ( Scimitar. No idea. D22

Brian Day 25 vs Steiny (LLL)

Put it in the books!  4/6 to finish the season and pretty sure I'm a lock to escape relegation via tiebreakers.  Happy new year and Merry Christmas and Kwanzaa to those who celebrate.

1) Jelly Roll Morton 3/2 Didn't know why he was famous but he immediately popped into my head so I didn't overthink it

2) Hundred Years War 0/1  Gimme given the length of time

3) Sedan 1/3 I didn't think of limousine.  Def would have gone with it if i had.

4) Ricky Gervais 2/0  No idea, went for MCW

5) Deed 1/1

6) epee 2/2 my college roommate was an Olympic alternate.

David S Day 25 vs. Brad

4/6 to close out the season.  This season was a tale of two halves for me, with the first half just about my best ever and the second half terrible.

1. Lolly Pop :(, D33.  No idea.

2. The Hundred Years War :), D22.  I spent far more time on this than any question this season and am happy to have gotten it.  1453 was the exact year that the Ottomans conquered Constantinople, so my thoughts went there and stayed there for a long time.  The kind of weird phrasing of the question made me think that the answer was perhaps in the Istanbul was Constantinople song, and I spent a lot of time trying to remember the lyrics.  Only when I really couldn't think of anything on that front did I start from scratch, and once I thought of the correct answer, I was pretty confident it made sense.

3. Limousine :), D12.  I knew this was a historic French region in the area, so I was confident here.

4. John Smith :(, D21.  No idea at all.  However, I did (somehow) recognize that this was based on the Office and not an obscure business question, so I at least defended it correctly, or so I think.

5. Deed :), D10.  Gimme.

6. Epee :), D01.  Not sure I could have named the other two, but this one I knew.

Looks like I get the win today vs. Brad.  Have a great break everyone.

5/6. Have a great offseason.

Correct Answer: JELLY ROLL MORTON
Your Answer: Jelly Roll Morton

I think this will play hard. I was into jazz and jazz history for a few years.

2. What is famous for, among many other things, lasting from 1337 to 1453?
Correct Answer: HUNDRED YEARS' WAR
Your Answer: Hundred Years War

Seems like a reasonably easy history question.

Correct Answer: LIMOUSINE
Your Answer: Peugot
Points Assigned: 1

I misread the question, but even so, I had no chance at this one.

The original was terrific as was the American version for the most part.

I guess I know this from the Olympics, or maybe my friend Zach, who was a fencer in high school.

Dave M day 24 vs Carr LLL

Another 3/6 today, heading for mid table mediocrity in C which could be worse considering my start to the season.

1 : ( OK. Ohh she’s the ‘it’ girl. D23

2 : ) Among Us. I have never played but when reading about it recalled how similar it was to the game ‘Mafia’ I played endlessly when younger. D11

3 : ( Crawfish. I’m used to calling the animal “Crayfish” but here in TX they’re called Crawfish. This is the same as a Crawdad according to Wikipedia (different names in different places) but given the Q’s wording I won’t get this one. D12

4 : ) Brewery. I knew Weihenstefan is a beer, looking at answers so far I’m nervous about by D32.

5 : ( Tchotchke. I had no idea, guess I don’t gamble enough. D21

6 : ) Pastel. Seems like today’s gimme. D00

Brian Day 24 vs Kim

Humble brag alert:  Today is my unprecedented fourth 9(6) of the season, this is my third best season in terms of correct answers, and yet I'm one spot out of relegation.

1) It  0/3  I had no idea and put Ziegfeld Follies, until I re-read the question, saw it was a two letter title, and hoped Bow was the original 'It Girl'.  Or scary clown.

2) Among Us 2/2  Along with Roblox and TikTok,  my kids were addicted to Among Us in 2020.  They even got me to play, and it was a lot of fun. It is so entertaining to kill little cartoon astronauts, watching their heads explode and their bones floating through space.  If you even hear someone say something is 'sus', it came from someone acting suspicious in Among Us and potentially being the Impostor/murderer.

3) Crawdad 1/0 Thank you to Ben Carr, former blog participant, for getting this answer for our team at pub trivia a few years ago.  It stuck with me

4) Brewery 2/1   I just drank a Weihenstephaner hefeweisse last weekend, it's one of my favorite beers.

5) Vig 3/2  I am a Jewish gambler

6) pastel 1/1 I had chalk as a placeholder, and then my comic book knowledge paid off.
