Brian I Day 2

5/6 Good start to the season, sure not to last.

1) Jon and Kate Plus Eight.  The first of many reality shows my wife has made me watch.  D1

2) McCartney.  Thought of designers with famous parents, she came to mind. D2

3) Taiwan.  Gimme?  D0

4) Excalibur.  Never heard of the names listed, but no other answer made sense. Almost talked myself out of it because it seemed it would be everyone's first instinct.  D1

5) Sistene.  Absolutely no idea.  D2

6) Planck. Quantum physics + constant = Planck.  Perhaps the most famous constant outside of Penny for Desmond. Planck length also rings a bell.  Opponent weak in science. D3

Jesse Day 2

3/6

1. Gosselin</I > is the last name of the titular ten from what television series, which ran in this version from 2007 through 2009 (first on Discovery Health, and later on TLC)?
Correct Answer: JON & KATE PLUS EIGHT
Your Answer: John and Kate plus 8
Points Assigned: 1

I am aware of this show. Intially put down Mary and Kate plus eight and quickly changed it it to John.

2. What English fashion designer, a former creative director at ChloĆ© and (since 2001) owner of her own fashion house, uses no fur or leather in her collections—unusual for a high-end designer, though not surprising given her legacy?
Correct Answer: STELLA MCCARTNEY
Your Answer: Attenborough
Points Assigned: 2

Ohhh, yeah that makes sense. I do wish there was a reality where my answer was correct.

3. Although the action is officially recorded as a mere transfer of credentials, the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 in October 1971 had the essential effect of expelling what member from the UN (with all subsequent readmission attempts failing thus far)?
Correct Answer: TAIWAN/REPUBLIC OF CHINA
Your Answer: Taiwan
Points Assigned: 1

Only country that made sense to me.

4. What is the Arthurian equivalent of the Muslim Zulfiqar, the Japanese Kusanagi, the Persian Shamshir-e-Zomorrodnegar, the Norse Gram, and the Carolingian Durendal?
Correct Answer: EXCALIBUR
Your Answer: Excaliber
Points Assigned: 0

I considered "round table", but Excalibur made much more sense. I have heard of the Gram.

5. Judith Slaying Holofernes (pictured), completed in the second decade of the 17th century, is widely believed to be an autobiographical representation of the artist's own rage against her mentor/rapist Agostino Tassi (as well as her horrible post-rape ordeal). Who is the artist of this work? LINK: http://www.learnedleague.com/images/art/98mc095y6m05498c.jpg
Correct Answer: ARTEMISIA GENTILESCHI
Your Answer: Titian
Points Assigned: 3

Never heard of her. I could not think of a female classical painter.

6. The unit of length equal to 1.616 229(38)×10^-35 meters, the constant in quantum physics equal to 6.62607004×10^-34 m^2 kg/s, and the unit of temperature equal to 1.416 808(33)×10^32 K (considered "absolute hot") are all named after what Nobel-winning German physicist?
Correct Answer: MAX PLANCK
Your Answer: Einstein
Points Assigned: 2

I knew this back in college.

S. day 2

4/6 again.

(1) Could have answered Jon & Kate in my sleep, but (5) no
recollection at all of the artist's name even after I submitted and
saw what it was, though I knew the painting. I don't feel well
rounded in any sense.

(2) Quite sure about the designer, but still decided to take the
lastname-only shortcut just in case I somehow was confusing Heather
and Stella (or in case one had followed the other into designing).

(4) Excalibur was a good guess, (3) North Korea was a bad guess, and
(6) Planck was an educated guess - I knew he was a German physicist,
recent enough to have won a Nobel, and that there was a constant named
for him, but couldn't remember what it was for or whether the given
units would make sense for it.

Steiny Day 2

Welcome back everyone, yesterday I began with a 3 and lost to another 3 on defense.  Oh well

1.:) Gimme, was just speaking about this show the other day..boy did that family take a downhill turn...

2. :( Mccartney crossed my mind, but for some reason I went with Fonda knowing it was probably wrong.

3. :) Only things that made sense though it was at best an educated guess

4. :- I said "sword in the stone"  I dont think that gets it for me, but there is some connection there

5. :( Nope, never heard of her, I guessed one of the only female painters I could think of, Mary Cassat, who clearly did not live in the 17th century

6. :) Only german physicist that came to mind

David S Day 2

A much better 4/6 today. I don't think I could have gotten more.

1. Jon and Kate Plus Eight :), D0. My wife's penchant for watching/making me watch with her terrible reality shows (and this one was truly terrible) finally pays off. Not worth all those hours of my life lost to get this question, but at least I got something out of it. D0 because film and TV are my opponent's best categories.

2. Beckham :(, D1. I'm assuming that this is the former Beatle's daughter. If that's the case, I get the clue, but I had no idea he even had a daughter, so I was never going to get this. D1 because this seems right up my opponent's alley.

3. Republic of China :), D2. Seems kind of obvious, but D2 because my opponent's worst category by far is world history.

4. Excalibur :), D1. I wasn't 100% sure, but I didn't see what else it could be. "Round table" seemed like a stretch to be repeated in multiple other cultures' mythology.

5. Medici :(, D3. No clue.

6. Planck :), D2. Physics gimme. D2 because his is also not a strength of my opponent.

3 :) 32 and AIDS = the rare American sport gimme for me. D0
4 :( I also went with Great instead of Terrible. D2 Good question.
5 :( Oh dear. I went in the complete opposite direction to most of you and went with Booty Calls. D3
6 :) The Economist always pays dividends. Mercosur it is. D2
